Tranny Blues.

My Friend went to pick up a pile of scrap metal and found this engine. Brought it over to me and asked what the hell is it? There are no markings other than the serial # stamped on the case. 1 hour later I called him and said you found a 59 ST 165 cc 5.5hp Harley Davidson Hummer engine. Lucky Bastard! While not worth a huge hunk of change.....It's still a whole lotta 'F--kin A' factor. Certainly cooler than my Aermachi Italian HD moped motor.
At least this was cast here in the US. [Yes I know it was a German DKW design]

I finally got a '16 over Girder for my Trumpet......Also took in 2 500 cc triumph motors and a small stash of parts In trade for the BSA frame and motor.

Here's the Indian I was fitting for a different seat. Also added a sissy bar. This was interesting as the changes had to be made with no changes or modifications to the bike itself. Made custom mounts for the attachment points. Remove four stock bolts...slip the brackets out and put the original seat back on. No Irreversible changes made..
BTW...This is a 2003 Spirit Scout. Basically a S&S motor in a softail frame.
Not a 'Real ' Indian. Nice bike...But it ain't a Springfield MA. bike
[that's where the original Indians were produced]

And now the reason for the title of the post........Annabelle is still Down.
After assembling the clutch basket on the bike. There was too much play between the clutch hub splines and the clutch gear mainshaft. The intense vibration from the loose magnets had worn the splines loose. I have to locate a clutch hub and probably the clutch gear.
Only 85-90 parts will fit. I haven't even begun to figure where to look with my budget right now. [Zero] I'll figure something out. I always do.
P.S I think 'Annebelle is jealous of my previous ride. Eveytime I say the triumph is next on the list of work to do....She breaks down. Hmmm?

Big D, You are right on the 165. My first bike was a 1953 165 Harley Hummer. I wish to this day I would have kept it. I paid $25 for it in 1965 got it running kept it hid from my folks for over a year sold it at a profit. I made $10:) I saw a basket case for $2500 but at the time I did not have the money. I think it's worth a bit. What would he take for it?

I don't know what his plans are.
However if possible I'd like it myself.

And who knows...they way I find shit all the time.
Next wek someone will probably drop a frame at my house,,LOL

Ever since I got the old timer to tell me about his first bike being a Harley 125, I've gotten a want to have one. It hasn't gotten much over a want, but how cool would it be to own the same bike your Pop had when he was in school?

Here's hoping you find what you need to get Annebelle bike pounding pavement.

-Peace

It would make a cool go-kart too. One would ask and just think of their face when told it is a Harley motor. With in a month or so the big swap meet hits Motown and it's pretty good. They are why too corp. now but that one still has old parts more than the rest. Now my youngest has been in an MC for about a year now. Has a lot connections so I'll ask him to put the word out on that frame and such. May be he'd sell it if he knew it was going back in a frame:)

In my twenties, I once had the opportunity to get an old Harley such as the on you spoke of here for next to nothing, but I poo pooed on the idea, 'cause I wanted a more modern one. Now I'm kicking myself in the ass for not getting it. It'd be cool to have both.

That's an awesome find. Definitely some coolness factor!

Cool. Don't know much about that engine beyond what I have read. That wasn't the one they put in the "beer cooler" on wheels deal was it? I'll have to go check this out when I get time.

Man, I would fully money shot on the floor if I found something like that.

Hmmm...How much would cost to get Annabelle off the rack in your opinion. Hmmm...I will start looking around.

I say dump the Trumpet and concentrate on Annabelle...but I know you'll never go for that, honey. I still love you, though. :)

Just pleeeeeze fix Annabelle soon! ;)

Each part is avalible for 130.oo
From the same place I bought the basket.
So I gotta figure 260 plus shipping.
I have a Triumph 500 motor listed on Craigslist.
Maybe I'll get lucky.

Mr. Big D: I've got a 69 350 Sprint in my garage right now. I've owned it for a few years and even rode it once. That thing is something else to ride. Hard to start, the brakes are only a name and lets’ not go into the backwards shifter, brake, kick start and kickstand thing. In all of my years I've never seen a bike with the kickstand on the right side and the kicker on the left side. I'll have to look but if I remember right it's only got 2300 miles on it and it is all original.

Hope you get the bike up quick.

I love all things HD.
I'd like to see photos of the sprint you have.
Also if any have old 'Back in the day' Pic's I'd love to see them.
I have none from my teen years with bike. all were destroyed.
{long ..long story]

If my XL was one year newer I’d pull the parts out and ship them.
I like that Thumper front end, don’t them anymore. 5.5 HP paperweight? Why not.

Fasthair. It was only in the 70's our government made it law to standeredize all motorcycles. One time they stuck their nose in to something that was right.

Big D: When I get a chance I'll go out to the garage and get a couple of photos of it for you.

WW: I think the year was 1974 when that became law. Then in 1978 they passed the lights on all the time law. To this day I can't understand why someone would ride without their light being on. It took me awhile to figure out to run with the low beam on in the day times instead of the high beam but it does work better. Think about it. Why does GM have day time running lights burning at 80%? It brings the light down to eye level.

Willy D.
While I appreciate the Offer
And proud to call you a friend who would make such an offer.
It's Sacreligous to me to Take apart a good harley to fix another.
I wouldn't be able to sleep at night for fear of the 'Harley' Gods striking me down with Hot factory Axle grease.
All hail the migthy Harley and Davidson....I will leave a sparkplug for you on the V twin altar. ;]

Anytime Big D. If I can help out I will. Besides, it’s not like I wouldn’t have another bike to ride while my XL was going back together. I’ll be looking for that spark plug when I visit the V Twin altar.
